March 2014 Favorites

I think I'm getting better at this....instead of being two weeks late, my favorites post is now up just one week late.  I actually don't have that many favorites, and they are all predictably products that I have posted about recently with a couple surprises here and there.  Apart from the blushes that I posted about earlier, I have been reaching for the same things pretty consistently.

Keep reading to see what I've been using!

I had a pretty good amount of eyeshadows I used in March.  Most recently acquired were the NYX Glam Shadow in Gypsy and the NYX Eyeshadow in Deep Bronze.  You can see swatches of them here!  I've used them both consistently, but I've probably been reaching for Deep Bronze more - both as a wash or as a light crease shade.  It has the perfect satin sheen, and it pulls together any look I do.   I've used Gypsy as a crease shade - and even though it looks like a typical shimmery brown shade, the shimmer has a something extra that makes it stand out.

I have all three of the theBalm's Shady Lady Palettes, but this month I took Volume 3  with me, and have completely fallen in love with it.  I managed to use all the shades in this palette at some point this month, but my most used shades were Mischievous Marisa, a coppery peach shade as an all over lid shade, Devilish Danielle, a light peach shade as a brightening all over lid color, and Insane Jane, a tan-taupe shade.

My last eye product was the Physician's Formula Eye Booster Pen, a liquid eyeliner that I've been using on top of my regular gel liner to emphasize my winged liner.  I've had this liner for awhile now, but I reach for it on and off - this month happened to be a month I just kept reaching for it!  It's truly one of the best liquid liners available in the drug store - it's pigmented, precise, and stays on all day.

I haven't really been using any lip products consistently - it's been one of those months where I've either been reaching for different products or just wearing the MAC Calm Mode Lip Conditioner. It was a limited edition release from a couple years ago, and it is still one of my favorite lip conditioners.  It has a great calming lavender scent, and the light pink shade is just enough to give me a tint of color.  I'm surprised there aren't any more lavender lip products out there...or do I just not know of any of them?? If anyone knows of any, please let me know!

For my face, I am so relieved that I actually like the Bourjois Health Mix Serum Foundation.  I bought this last year when I was in Paris, and for some reason, it did not work on me at all last year.  It was partly because I was a little tanner when I bought it and I didn't pick up the right shade.  I remember that I also didn't particularly like the finish of it on my skin, but I've been loving it for this winter.  I wonder if it's because this is such a moisturizing formula that works with the dry and cold winter weather, but the finish was moisturizing nd luminous on my skin.  With my winter skin tone, it was the perfect match.  I finally see what the hype was about, since the gel-liquid formula of this foundation makes it feel light, but also gave me great medium coverage.  For reference, I have this in shade 53, and I'm probably about a MAC NC30 right now.

Finally, I have some miscellaneous items.  The first is actually a hair product, since I need some type of texturizing cream to keep my shorter hair in place.  As much as I love doing makeup, I am actually the laziest  person with my hair, and I pretty much refuse to style it in the morning, so my solution is to slap on texturizing cream and let it air dry that way.  It's been working well for me, since I don't need to straighten or blow dry it at all in order for it to be styled the way I want.  I attribute more of this to the Bed Head Manipulator - a creamy texturizing cream that I warm up with my fingers and then run through my hair.  I only bought a tiny travel size because I want to try out some other texturizing creams as well, but this has been working beautifully for me!

For my nails, I actually did my nails with the Catrice Shopping at Bluemingdale's nail polish for more than one manicure in a row.  It was the perfect transition shade from the winter to the spring, as it's bright and cheery.  It chips within a few days (I get around 4 or 5 days of wear), so it doesn't have the most perfect staying power, but I love the shade of it so much that I don't mind at all.

You may all remember my obsession with the now discontinued Sonia Kashuk Domed Powder brush, and I've been looking to replace it with another brush.  I'm so glad I finally had the chance to try the Real Technique Blush Brush, because I think I like it even better than the Sonia Kashuk version.  It's not as tapered, but the duo fiber dome shade picks up blush better, and it also seems to blend and buff out my blush better.  I haven't stopped using this blush since I've gotten it, so that must say something, right?

Although I had a lack of actual lip products in March, I think I'm just getting ready for a new rotation of pinks, corals, and reds for spring.  Spring seems to have totally snuck up on me, and I only just recently started wearing brighter shades so expect to see those for April!

Have you tried any of these products?  I'd love to hear recommendations for any similar products, as well!
